“And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.” Daniel 12:1
People have often wondered what the “abomination that maketh desolate” mentioned in Daniel Chapter 12, is, as it is one of the keys to unlocking both the meaning of the prophecy, but, more importantly, the DATES which are sealed within the book.
For reasons which will become apparent shortly, I am not here to speculate about WHAT the “abomination that maketh desolate” is. I am here to tell you EXACTLY what it is. Put simply, it is the Islamic structure know as the Dome of the Rock, which currently sits on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem in place of God’s Holy Temple.
Once you hear it, it sounds rather obvious, doesn’t it? Obviously the existence and placement of that structure is what is currently preventing the true Temple of God from being rebuilt. However, in addition to this fact, there are also many inscriptions within the walls of the structure itself which make specific reference to God as “having no son.” You are more than welcome to confirm this at your leisure, as a simple Google search of something like “Dome of the Rock God has no Son inscriptions” should suffice to find them easily yourself.
So, how can we be so sure that the Dome of the Rock is, in fact, the “abomination that maketh desolate” which Daniel was referring to, besides the obvious which has already been stated? Before we begin, let us start with the year in which the Dome of the Rock began construction, which is 688 AD. There are some varying dates among historians that have been proposed based on different historical sources, and if you search online you will find a few competing dates; however, 688 AD is the most commonly excepted date among Jewish historians, and, as far as matters pertaining to the Temple Mount are concerned, I would say that those are the only historians whose opinions we should concern ourselves with here. So let’s keep that date, 688 AD, in our minds, and we’ll see if and how it fits into the prophecy of Daniel Chapter 12 as we go through it verse by verse. But first, let’s begin by discussing one of the more peculiar aspects of this prophecy. We’ll begin by simply reviewing the first few passages:
-
1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
-
As is clearly stated in verse 4, the words of this prophecy are intended to be understood SPECIFICALLY by those people living at “the time of the end;” in fact it implies that it would actually be impossible to understand them before such a time; and many prophecy scholars before me have already noted the particularly prescient nature of the references to knowledge increasing and travel becoming more widespread. I think we can all agree that this is an apt description of the times we currently find ourselves living in.
So here we have a prophecy that can only be understood by those people who are already living near, or even AT, the end of the age and are imminently awaiting the return of Christ. Now that we’ve established WHEN this prophecy will finally be able to be unsealed and fully understood by those reading it, let’s move on to the meat of the prophecy itself. Returning to Daniel 12, we are given two quite mysterious sounding numbers, which are given as a number of “days.” Let’s look at those verses here:
-
Daniel 12:
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
-
As most Christians who are familiar with Biblical prophecy already know, whenever the word “days” is used in a prophetic context that encompasses a large span of time, it almost invariably is meant to be taken as “years.” I won’t expound at length on the details of WHY this is the convention in this particular essay, as I assume the reading audience is already very familiar with this theological concept and doesn’t require further exegesis. Even putting this convention aside, you will see moving forward that this interpretation of “days” as “years” emerges naturally on it’s own as a logical consequence of deciphering this particular prophecy. With that out of the way, let’s continue.
So here we have a period of 1,290 years, and another of 1,335 years. If we only had these two numbers, then they are still vague enough to refer to virtually any period or periods of time in history that one would like to choose. Obviously they are speaking about the Temple Mount and the nation of Israel, but beyond that, there are already many people who have tried to interpret them as referring to any manner of historical events, as you the reader are most likely already familiar with.
However: if one is familiar with the concept of triangulation, you may be pleased to learn that we in fact have THREE numbers. The third number; the most important one of all, and the one which unlocks the ENTIRE prophecy; can be found in the book of Revelation Chapter 12. It is as follows:
-
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND THREESCORE DAYS.
7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
-
For the benefit of the lay-reader, if you are not familiar with what a “score” is, it is simply another word for the number twenty. As such, the number given here is 1,260 days.
Now, as you may have already noticed, this number is strikingly close to the previous number we were given: 1,290. We will return to these numbers shortly after a brief aside regarding the identity of the woman and the child. Now, I’m assuming I shouldn’t have to explain to anyone reading this who is familiar with the Bible that the “woman” that the Bible is referring to is the people of Israel, and that the “man child, who was to rule all nations” is Jesus; and hopefully we are all already familiar with the historical events surrounding the great Jewish diaspora, and of the reformation of the State of Israel on May 14th 1948.
After the time of Christ, the Jewish people were ejected from the promised land of Israel by conquering nations and were scattered to the four winds. An exceptionally large number ended up in Europe, and, as we know all too well, the concentration camps of Nazi Germany saw the systematic extermination of approximately six million Jews. Indeed, it was specifically this unprecedented horror, witnessed by the entire world, which finally provided the needed momentum necessary to reestablish the Jewish people in the modern State of Israel in their ancient homeland after approximately 2,500 years without a true independent nation-state of their own.
So, the prophecy of “the wilderness” is clearly referring SPECIFICALLY to the period of time in which the Jews were cast out of the land of Israel, and were a wandering people without a nation.
You may have already guessed where all of this is leading, because we now have all of the numbers we need to figure out EXACTLY what the sealed book of Daniel is trying to tell us. First, let us list all of the numbers we have available to us one more time, and then we’ll do some simple math:
KNOWN DATES:
688 AD, Construction begins on the Dome of the Rock
1948 AD, The newly formed State of Israel announces it’s independence
NUMBERS OF “DAYS” GIVEN IN THE SCRIPTURES (prophetic years):
1,260
1,290
1,335
Now, if we assume that the Dome of the Rock is the most likely candidate to be the “abomination that maketh desolate” that Daniel was referring to in the prophecy, then what happens if we simply add 1,260 to 688?
688 + 1,260 = 1948
As you can see, the number that has been provided to us in Revelation Chapter 12 regarding HOW LONG the Jews will be without a nation, when combined with the date at which construction of the Dome of the Rock commenced, has given us the PRECISE year in which Israel became a nation again! This seems FAR too accurate to be a coincidence. In fact, this alone would appear to be concrete confirmation that this interpretation is correct. However, we are not done yet. We still have two more numbers. So what do we get when we add 1,290 to 688?
688 + 1,290 = 1978
For those unfamiliar with the history of Israel, a brief aside is necessary. At the time that Israel declared independence in 1948, she was immediately attacked by the surrounding nations of Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan, with the additional support of volunteers from the nations of Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Yemen. After an almost year-long struggle, the newly formed State of Israel was able to secure a decisive victory, and the invading nations were forced to flee, with many of them, though not all, reaching an armistice agreement with Israel. However, this would not be the last time Israel would be forced to defend herself in this manner, as her surrounding neighbors would try to recapture the land of Israel several more times over the course of her history. I won’t bother to list them all here, however, if the reader is interested in doing further research on their own, the most notable of these were the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War.
Okay. So what is notable about the year 1978 in regards to this sealed prophecy of Daniel? Well, 1978 would mark the inception of the Camp David Accords. The Camp David Accords were a peace treaty established between Israel and Egypt; Egypt being one of Israel’s most formidable enemies who had participated in every war of invasion up until that point. This was also when Israel famously returned control of the large land-mass known as the Sinai peninsula to Egypt; the entirety of which had been secured by Israel during the Six Day War a decade previous.
In the decades since the Camp David Accords were established, Israel has fought many armed conflicts, however, thanks to the refusal of Egypt to participate in any future invasions, Israel has not fought a true war within their borders against the invading army of any foreign nation. Of the various armed conflicts Israel has engaged in since 1978, all have taken place either OUTSIDE of the borders of Israel on foreign soil, or were one of the infamous “Intifadas;” which were waged not by governments, but by various loosely-knit terrorists groups not officially affiliated with any nation state.
So, as you can see, 1978 was a VERY important year for Israel. It marked the beginning of a lasting period of tangible peace and security within the borders of Israel which has continued to this day. Knowing all of this, I think it is safe to assume that this is, in fact, the correct date that the prophecy was referring to.
So this brings us to the final date, and what we are to make of the prophetic words “Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.” As you may have already guessed, if the information above is indeed accurate, that means THIS DATE IS STILL IN THE FUTURE! So, let’s once again do the math, and when we are done, use our knowledge of history to try to hazard a guess as to what this number might mean. Our last set of numbers are:
688 + 1,335 = 2023
Now, before we try to analyze what this apparent date we’ve been provided might mean, let us first pause to consider the fact that all of the information needed to unseal these prophecies was already available any time after the Camp David Accords were established in 1978. That means that the sealed book of Daniel has now officially been, at the time of this writing, open and unsealed before the entire world for THE LAST FORTY-FOUR YEARS!
That is a stunning realization, considering the fact that the information was there waiting to be pieced together all along. In fact, many people most likely already HAVE put these numbers together and just weren’t in a position in a pre-internet age to widely publicize this finding and make the numbers known to the entire world without first writing an extensive treatise on the subject like the one you are reading now. I certainly don’t claim to be the first; however, at the moment, considering that most Christians still debate over the true identity of the “abomination that maketh desolate,” when both the Biblical numbers, as well as common sense historical knowledge, would appear to strongly confirm it’s identity as the Dome of the Rock; I expect that this is new information to essentially everybody currently reading this.
So we have a date in the future, and it is up to us, using the information we have currently available, to try and establish what is a most likely scenario to occur at that future time. I should pause here to preface the following speculation by saying that it can be very dangerous trying to intuit what God intends to do at a future date, even when you actually have a real number from prophecy to work with. So far we appear to have established THAT something of extreme importance regarding the Temple Mount will occur in the year 2023. We cannot, however, do more than speculate as to WHAT that something might be.
I can assure you from the outset that it is almost certainly not a date for Jesus’s return, which any regular student of the Bible knows cannot be known in advance, as only the Father knows the day and the hour. To be cautious, one should also not assume to know the year, as many have made themselves look utterly foolish in the past trying to do just such a thing. So let me assuage those fears before we proceed and say I am not attempting to predict the return of Christ.
No, what I think; and again, remember we are dealing with speculation from here on out; is that 2023 is the year in which the Dome of the Rock is finally REMOVED FROM THE TEMPLE MOUNT, and that this event, taking place in the year 2023, will be the final spark which marks the commencement of the final battle of Armageddon spoken of in Ezekiel Chapter 38. In other words, World War 3.
If you are a Jew yourself, and ESPECIALLY if you live in Israel, I think you already know exactly what I’m about to talk about. For the uninformed reader I want to issue a strong DISCLAIMER:
Nothing I am about to say should be construed as a call to action, or should be taken by the reader as encouragement for acts of violence or terrorism directed at any person, place, or thing. It is merely an observation of past historical events, and an attempt to guess how likely it is that those events might be attempted again in the future.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, for both legal and spiritual indemnification purposes, let’s return to Daniel Chapter 12 and focus in on some important aspects of the text regarding the fate of the “abomination that maketh desolate”:
-
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
-
As we’ve already established, the State of Israel was not actually secure within their borders, nor were their present-day borders even fully delineated, until the signing of the Camp David Accords in 1978. It would seem fairly obvious that the period of time this passage is referring to is the period of time in which the Jewish people were not fully secure within their borders, and that this was made possible in 1978 with the signing of an historic peace treaty with their ancient enemy and historical oppressor, Egypt. As anyone who has watched the news the for the last few decades is aware, Israel is MORE than capable of handling their own security these days, and even make occasional incursions into neighboring countries to destroy terrorist strongholds which may pose a threat to the interior of Israel. Israel truly has become the “land of unwalled villages” spoken of in the prophecies of Ezekiel 38:
-
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
-
So what are we to make of the second part of this prophecy; the part that contains mention of a “blessing” for those who wait until the end of the period of 1,335 days? Let’s continue:
-
12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
-
Now, this part of the prophecy is where we TRULY start speculating, as this is referring to a future which hasn’t happened yet. However, might we be able to hazard any guesses as to what this may mean? Let’s start with the words “blessed is he who waits . . .” Considering that this entire prophecy hinges on the continuing existence of the “abomination that maketh desolate,” is it not safe to assume that the end of the prophetic period laid out in the text might mark the end of the PRESENCE of this “abomination” on the Temple Mount? Seeing as the “abomination” is considered a great evil and an offense, both to God and the Jewish people, it seems safe to assume that the “blessing” that it is referring to is a future time in which the “abomination” no longer exists.
Now, let me reiterate before we continue: I am not advocating for any kind of violent action to be taken against the Dome of the Rock, nor any other type of violent attack of any kind. Are we all clear on that? Good. Let us continue.
Now that we have established firm reason to speculate that there will come a time in the near future in which the Dome of the Rock is no longer present on the Temple Mount, let’s move on to the final part of this prophecy which still needs to be addressed.
-
12 Blessed is he that WAITETH, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
-
Note the reference to WAITING. What are we to make of that term? One might argue that it is simply telling the reader to be patient, however, in order for that to make sense, it would imply that the person doing the waiting must wait ONE THOUSAND THREE HUNDERED AND THIRTY-FIVE YEARS. Considering that the injunction is given in the form of a LITERAL blessing, it seems unlikely that it is simply telling the reader in whatever historical time-period they happen to find themselves to merely “be patient.” No, the implication in the text is that the reader is intended to wait UNTIL THE TIME IS RIGHT.
It is at this point that I need to stop one final time and make it clear: I am not advocating for, defending, nor am I affiliated with, any type of terrorist organization, nor am I calling for the type of actions I am about to describe. Okay. Let’s proceed with the final piece of the puzzle, and see if we can intuit what prophetic events might take place in the year 2023, which, at the time of this writing in the late winter/early spring of 2022, is only about 1 year away.
Again, if you are Jewish, and ESPECIALLY if you are an Israeli, I think you already know where I’m going with this. The rest of you, however, most likely require some historical context, so allow me to give you a brief history of the radical terrorist organization known as the “Jewish Underground,” and, more specifically, their failed 1984 attempt to blow up the Dome of the Rock.
The Jewish Underground were a small group of vigilante activists formed in the early 1980s with the express goal of destroying the Dome of the Rock in order to make way for a Third Jewish Temple. They first set about enacting several smaller scale terror operations aimed at causing unrest and fear among the local Arab population, before finally attempting, in 1984, to enact their true goal of destroying the Dome itself. According to reports from the time, they were very nearly successful in their plot, but ultimately failed and were tried and imprisoned. If you would like to know more, there are many documentary resources available on YouTube about this subject.
So, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way we have to ask ourselves, WHAT would have happened if they had succeeded? Documentary sources and news reports from the time document widespread fear on the part of Israeli officials that this plot, if successful, would have sparked off World War 3, and possibly could have caused a NUCLEAR war. I fully agree with them in that assessment. If ANYTHING would be the incitement for the start of the final war to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth, an event like the destruction of the Dome of the Rock would most CERTAINLY be it.
So, here we are. The Sealed Book of Daniel lies open before us. We have an apparent date, 2023, and we know that the very same plot has been tried before. Will they try again? I do not know the future on this, so don’t take this as a prediction; merely my best estimation; but my gut says yes, they will try, and this time they will succeed. I think that the only reason that God did not allow them to succeed the first time they tried is that they didn’t get the TIMING right. If this prophecy is to be believed, there is actually a special BLESSING set aside for those who wait until the appointed time to make this a reality. If this is what God is intending, I see no other way that this blessing can be interpreted. Remember however, that these are God’s words, not mine, and that I do not endorse violence of any kind. However if God wants that Dome gone, there is nothing ANYBODY in this world can do to stop it from happening. That Dome may just be the key that unlocks the final battle, so watch diligently, wait until God’s appointed time, and ALL EYES ON THE TEMPLE MOUNT.
As you can see my friends, it appears we are at the very precipice of history; the battle of Armageddon described in Ezekiel 38 is almost certainly only a handful of years away, so I must implore all of my Christian and Jewish brothers and sisters: REPENT, FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS AT HAND. PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD. MAKE STRAIGHT IN THE DESERT A HIGHWAY FOR OUR GOD! Purify yourselves brothers and sisters; get your affairs in order; make yourself ready to meet the King of Kings!
Fear not, for the Lord our God is with us, and we ALREADY KNOW how the story ends. To all of my Brothers and Sisters currently suffering persecution in foreign lands: HOLD ON JUST A LITTLE LONGER, HELP IS ON THE WAY. We are about to witness the most amazing and terrifying time in the history of our world; The Great and Terrible Day of The Lord; and we should count ourselves lucky to be able to witness it firsthand, even if it takes the lives of many of our fellow servants before this time of trouble is over. Remember: WE ALREADY KNOW HOW THIS STORY ENDS. Stay strong in the faith, and together we will advance to VICTORY.
To all my fellow American Patriots, I do not know exactly what America’s part to play is in all of this; but God has instructed me to leave you with these words: A SCORPION ALWAYS TRIES THE HARDEST TO STING YOU AS YOU ARE CRUSHING IT.
My only current issue is the statement: “preventing the true temple of God from being built”. A more careful language needs to be used here. Even if the Jewish temple was built and standing today, it would not be the true temple of God. As God no longer dwell in a temple made of hands. The Christians physical body is the current temple of God. 1 Corinthians 3:16. And that is not to say that a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem would have a significant impact because it would. I do believe at some point a temple will be built that will be considered to be Holy to Israel.
Now after reading the entire article. I’m almost at a loss for words.
At this current time, I cannot say if he is right or wrong. I have calculated Daniels days into years, from Daniel 12 but it never panned out, duh…. Of course the dome of the rock. It makes sense. I’m going to have to do my own research on this. And see if that 688 A.D. holds up. And also there are many other passages that refer to the desolation, and that also give timelines. So I will have to revaluate basically everything and see if it all fits. Other things to consider to see if it fully fits. We have to apply revelation 11 and the two witnesses.
Also Jesus says In Matthew 24, that when you see this to flee. Was there still some Jews or Christians in the area that fled when the dome was being built?
And still how does this fit in with Daniels 70th week? Now I have lots of studying to do.
But hats off to you. It’s a very good essay.
As I read this reveal AA, 'special Blessing' is what jumps out. Truth is so simple once you 'see it'
The dome as the abomination...of course! And as we 'wait' patiently in faith, as events unfold and Jesus does his thing, we will see Isaiah 9 unfold? Government resting on his shoulders, the Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father. There will be no end to the increase of His gov't or of His peace. Justice and righteousness will be established and upheld. The people who have walked in darkness will see a great light, the light will shine on them. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will establish this. Then we will behold what Jesus told us to pray for over 2,000 yrs ago 'let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven'
